Coming out of the Sandbox?

Whatever you want to call it, the Sandbox, filters, old link versus new link issues... strangeness is happening. Outside of suddenly performing astonishingly well in Yahoo, I have a site that has had sand bags tied around its ankles in the sea of Google search since Sept. 23rd. I've observed that some pages are creeping back slowly into respectable territory but others are mired on pages 10 to 20 and others seem to have dropped off the end of the earth.

The odd thing is that all pages are optimized pretty much the same way, have about 65% of the same content in the form of our introduction and a bit about our services. Granted some keywords are more competitive than others, but not so much to explain the strange way some pages are returning to life and others not. Also, I noticed that a new page added after Sept. 23rd seemed to avoid the Sandbox. We do provide some highly specialized business services so I wonder if Google my have just let a few pages back in to fill out their SERPS in these areas while keeping the sanbox in place for the rest?

Any thoughts, observations?

We just checked all our clients all of them seem to be out of the sandbox lag of google,

I saw this information posted on another site but haven't seen it here yet. It appears that sites are out of the sandbox on some datacenters. When doing a search for "www.mysite.com" on the following datacenters my site appears first. If I do the same search by just going to Google then my site appears fifth. I'm not sure if this is the most scientific of tests, but it appears that something is changing.

Could be -- there are a couple of other considerations tho... the datacenters may only be showing part of the whole database, and/or they may only be showing results that have been partially processed.

Be carefull disuccing the sandbox -- it is easy to confuse the sandbox with a ranking problem.

If I believe a site has a ranking problem that is a big problem because I have to go right back to square one and examine my assumptions and do my research.

If I believe a site is 'sandboxed' then I'm off the hook and its Google's fault.

I do think there is a sandbox type of affect but I don't think it lasts anywhere near as long as many people think or is as pervasive.

Both Yahoo and MSN seem to like a lot of content and inward links, similar to what G liked a year back. It might be noted that Y! and MSN like sites that bold their keywords.

On these new DCs if I do inurl: some sites with jump.pl etc. problem show up. Also a site doing this with a script has my title and is a supplemental result (the others are just the link no description). This is forcing my rankings way down I believe on these new DC updates and probably giving me a hefty penalty.

What can I do, I am dead if these updates propogate, I will never make it out of the sandbox...?

I agree there is sometimes a fine line between the two. I can say in my case that it is definatley some filter or even the dreaded sandbox... the pages that are coming out aren't too different than the pages that are nowhere to befound... pre Sept. 23rd they were all ranking well except in cases where the competition was really heavy. I can't really explain why similar pages are being treated so differnetly.

BTW... I would have to blame Google for this one. If you go form top 5 to oblivion, that is a major behavior change on theier part...

i'm having almost no luck with sandboxed sites yet...
