Nice story, but this was a real puff peice. I'd expected something a bit deeper out of 60 minutes. Lowest quality Google story by a major news outlet in years.
> plans for future
Not much on it about Googles plan for the future, (except they plan to offer translations of pages). Yes, that is exactly what they said - the ability to translate any web page...wow - hello 1996).
Has Google gotten so big and powerful that even CBS is afraid of them?
There was nothing about Googles plan for the future, except they plan to offer translations of pages. They can't handle the present so they had to take a grasp from the past.
Of course if I posted this en espanol and google translated it, it would read "They didn't get any presents so they past gas from their .." ;)
For sure, Google needs to keep its stock momentum.
With Republicans running the country, it'll be difficult for the Wall Street thieves -using the same tactics as Quatrone- to have another party as the one they had in the late 1990's.
Don't remember who did the interviews, but they didn't ask one difficult question. Playboy was harder on these guys than a news show. I'd have loved to have heard them talk about the lawsuits, fierce competition on the way, and their outdated SERPs. What about asking Schmidt about his past failures in going up against Microsoft?
The one nice thing was to see a small bit on local search and how powerful it can be. Problem is that Google is really far behind in Local Search.
Overall, very disappointed in the piece. Didn't need to waste my time to find out what Google serves in the cafeteria.
"No mention yet of problems due to black hat seo"
Why bring it up it when nobody has a clue as to its meaning. I mention it to people unfamiliar and it always goes over their head.
"ask why they weren't in the Top 10 results for the term "60 Minutes"
They avoided that one didn't they?
All I saw on that 1st page was affiliate sites with 3-4 word hyphenated domains, and then there was proflowers at the bottom of the 1st page.
I have to ask... why is everyone so surprised about 60 minutes and their lack of journalism? 60 minutes hasn't been a truly impartial journalistic show in a LONG time. They basically rent out their program for promotional purposes. Since they were bought out, they simply push books published by their parent company and make up their own controversies (hello, forged documents). I can all but guarantee that the producers and execs at 60 minutes own a nice chunk of GOOG ticker code, and that puff piece was no coincidence (sadly, not working, GOOG down almost 5 today).
There was ONE thing that they almost called G out on, and that is their inevitable head on collision with Gates and MSN. I thought it was funny how none of them would say that they are worried or that the relationship needs to be adversarial. LOL, they throw "desktop search sand" in Gates' eyes and they don't think that maniac will get upset? This should get fun this year.
But yeah, 60 minutes sucks, and G definitely got their money's worth. They made a big point to state that they have never even had a TV commercial for Google. Well, this certainly seemed like one to me :)
