High Ranking Site That Doesn't Follow Any Rules

So, about a year ago I changed the domain names on one of my website (company changed names). I kept the old page up with a 'we moved' statement. About 9 months ago, I erased everything off the page except for a javascript redirect. No title, no description, nothing.

It's been this way for 9 months. It used to be rank about number 40 for fairly competitive keyword.

Recently, it's moved up to 7th position. Google still shows the 9 month old title and description.

How in the world can this happen? The only thing it has going for it is backlinks.
