Is probably just my own paranoia, but I have noticed that some webmasters leave off the "www" part of the domain when writing a reciprocal link.

Are these just genuine mistakes or does this in someway invalidate the links or perhaps make it non reciprocal? or maybe there is some other reason.

It could be that some webmasters just find it easier to leave of the www. If both work the same (and they really should in terms of ideal site design) it makes no difference. However, it is an interesting theory that leaving off the www might increase chances that Googlebot will miss that links are reciprocal. In a case that might happen it could be a plus for rankings. And if Googlebot does merge the 2, worst case scenario is that no harm is done.
