I have a site that has image links down the left to my main pages ..

Do you all recommend that I have the same links in text at the foot of the page?

The thing is Google will see the image links first as its nearer the top of the source code - any comments on whether this will be worth it for SEO? For visitors it could be useful but unless they have images turned off, not mandatory.

Text links can be useful, but a good halfway house is simply to ensure that the ALT text on each image is concise as usable by those who browse with text browsers.
Such an approach doesn't change your layout but does ensure accessibility plus giving GoogleBot good information about the links

Absolutely. The link text to those internal pages is important.
