How Long to Update SERPS?

How long does it take to know if the backlinks are working?

Other than just looking to see if the backlinks are showing up in the engines, is there "normal" period of time to see if the backlinks are helping your SERP rankings?

I have setup many backlinks from HIGHER PR sites (PR7+), and just wondering how much time it usually takes to see the change in SERP traffic/rankings.

A couple weeks if the effect from the links is very strong.

Depends on the age of a site. One made this year, that has different rules. Links added to tweo year old pages, some effect can be felt in a couple days.

Usually... weeks to months (but can be days to many months).

It really does depend on the site, the links, and many factors.

Hi,

I put one link on a pr6 with few other outbounds. The target page took about two weeks to appear on the first page for the phrase targeted in the anchor of the link.

If your looking for PR, this takes a PR update.

Google lately is acting like a moody girlfriend. Never know what to expect. A few too many links and your site might be flagged and some believe that the new links will be limited in value for x amount of months.

It seems you've bought some expensive links man. Well if it's been some months then you got trapped at a wrong time. There hasn't been any SERP's update for 3 months now. I'd advice you t wait for some time as Google update must be near.

Steveb, while i talked about SERPS update i's reffering to the inclusion of 'new sites in the databse' in the SERPS. It's been 3 months now that this has not happened.
You are right that the SERPS are being updated for the sites that have already been considered & included in the SERPS.

saw a major SERPs update (not involving 'new' sites though) yesterday where seemingly 216.239.57.99 results propagated to some other DCs. Had my site appearing in top10 for the keyword that alone would let me save enough dough for Barbados in 2 weeks :) Now it's back to what it was before and 216 has worsened as well but still looks a lot better than all other DCs.
anyone experiencing anything of this sort?

Are you talking about changes to the cache or an actual increase / decrease in position 3 times a day?

Still not true. New sites are added to the database every day. They may rank godawful, but the serps are updated every day. There isn't any problem with Google's updating ability or frequency. The problem is how they choose to update (or are forced to update due to problems).

(We don't do specifics on webmasterworld; and 216.239.57.99 does have some weird/bad results, imo.)

Last 3 site launches this month.
indexed in 72 hours, one the next day.

SERPS changes several times a day normally, but there is a possibility that it has missed a day occasionally

I see the backlinks showing in the index. I also see that my pages are showing up in the index. I have yet to see an increase in traffic from the SERPS. As of today, it has been 5 weeks.

Is this normal?

I have an established site (since 1999) that ranks in Google's top 20 for most of my key terms in a competitive market. A large number of high quality external links PR 5 - PR 7 have been sine June 2004. Since June there has been absolutly no change to the postion of my site in the serps. I belive that these new links are still waiting to be taken into account by Google for whatever reason. It seems the only logical conclusion that I can make. I would be interested to hear whether anyone has had a similar experience.
