Proper redirect code

Newbie needs to know the proper way to redirect homepage

I have a fairly large site and for reasons which are too long to explain here, I need to implement a redirect code on my homepage. I also need to make sure that the other pages within my site will be found.

I am currently using a meta redirect on my homepage but I don't think google likes this. Can someone give me html code for doing this properly? Thanks.

This is best done at the server configuration level. How you do it depends on which server software your Web host is using. Do a Webmaster World site search for "apache redirect" or "iis redirect" or whatever.
