Blacklisted?

I think my site is blacklisted.

My site has many backward links, a PR of 4, gets freshbot, is on the first page of Yahoo, but is nowhere near those rankings on google.

We've redone the site, reconstructed mata tags, titles and everything. The site is 100 times better than before and yahoo has recognized this but we are still not on Google.

Anyone else having this issue?

If you're getting PR 4, you're not blacklisted. The command site:www.yourdomain.com turns up nothing?

It sounds like you're in there, just not ranking well. Metatags are not so important. The most important on-page factor is to have better-optimized content. Are you trying to target very specific keywords? Are they very competitive?

diamondgrl,

We have 24 backward links to the main site. Working on adding more content to the site, so the site is 3 layers deep. We are targeting a very spacific audience, and yes it is very competitive.

I have optimized the content to be spacific in the anchor text, meta tags, and on the site itself. I sometimes wonder is too many words on the page too much. I think the main problem is we baught the domain name from someone else and it will not be accepted into DMOZ.

I think that is where I am missing something. Where do you go next?

Thank you,
VC

First, type in site:www.yourdomain.com to Google to make sure your pages really are indexed. If they are, then you've simply got an issue about how to get higher in the search engines.

Secondly, DMOZ is very hit or miss. The editors there are volunteers and are overwhelmed. You could get listed same day or not at all.

Third, build links and more links and more links.

If it's a competitive keyword as you say, you're probably just struggling to be heard in a very loud echo chamber. You simply need greater PR and a more highly optimized page to win that game. You should definitely consider whether to buy PPC advertising on Google, Overture or elsewhere. And if you haven't already, you should check out other paid inclusion directories that will grow the number of backlinks and PR.

Thanx diamondgrl,

I did check the site:yourdomain.com, and all our sites are listed. I agree, it is a very competitive industry I'm in and I'm new at competing.

We do have ad campaigns going on on both overture and Google.

We are working on Online stores, and links to directiries and other sites. It's a slow and grinding process.

I'm not sure how much the paid inclusions will help. I have seen mixed messages from people on here about their usefullness.

What is your exp with paid inclusions?

Thanx,
VC

start concentrating on content. lots and lots of juicy content. sounds trite or obvious, but it's one of the most important things in the long run. if you have a site that others like, Goog will like you too...

Yes, it is a slow grinding process. You may want to start a new thread asking folks about tips on pay-for-inclusion or check out old threads.

I'm not an expert. I do it only if they are direct links and can pass PR. And I don't really know how much money I would lose if I didn't do this. I know my business is substantial enough right now that I figure if it helps 1 percent, it will more than pay for itself. It's always a much tougher call when the business is new and your revenue is far outpaced by expenses.

Has anyone ever used a link exchange program online. The kind where you sign up and based on your key words, and descriptions they find you a list of possible partners?

What are the thoughts on those programs? Any suggestions?

The site is 100 times better than before and yahoo has recognized this but we are still not on Google.

It doesn't matter if the site is "100 times better" in your opinion, it matters what Google's opinion is of your site if you want to rank on their search engine ... and by the sounds of it they don't like your site. 24 backlinks isn't a lot by the way, have you checked the backlink count of the people ranked in the top 10?

Has anyone ever used a link exchange program online.

From the research I've done my competitors that are using link exchange programs never seem to rank as highly as sites with the same number (or even less) of non-reciprocated links.

internetheaven,

Everyone in the top ten are competitors. Or they are services that are used in our niche that we are already on. The problem with these services we are on is they give a CGI link and charge $$$$ for it!

GG doesn't seem to pick up the CGI links as backward links.

Ever encountered this issue?

GG doesn't seem to pick up the CGI links as backward links.

It's not GoogleGuy's job I think. ;)

Or do you mean Google = GG? Imho the following abbreviations are most common:
G = Google
GG = GoogleGuy
GB = GoogleBot (could also be Guestbook)
