Faster server = deeper crawls?

Does Google care how long a server takes to respond?

My host just moved my site to a much faster server last week. It was a nice surprise and goes to show the service you can get from a one-man outfit . . . anyway, whereas the old server often took 8-12 seconds to even respond to a request and begin sending data, the new one serves the page immediately. So I was wondering; is this likely to make Google happier and result in better crawling?

Very, very, very much. There are several things you should watch for in your headers though if Google starts to really hit your site hard.
