Anyone know the status?

I was hoping to use googlegroups instead of yahoogroups for some projects, but it looks like gg is still in beta and fairly restricted regarding features, etc in comparison.

Anyone know if google is still pursuing the google groups thing and what might be in store?

Google has historically waited quite a while before calling any of their services finished. Look at how long Gmail has been in beta.

?

Why can't you use the existing Google Groups or is Google Groups going to be offering a web service like the Google web search API, and that's what the message is about?

Thanks.

I have a choice of setting up on yahoogroups, or googlegroups, and I'd prefer to get off of yahoogroups if possible. If googlegroups was complete and fullfeatured I would go there. But it isn't.

It functions, but it's clearly not "ready for prime time", so I was wondering if anyone knew if development was continuing on it. I dont' think there's been much change there for months.
