cached page-time stamp

I have just read the forum below, i then took a look and noticed the following.

My pages were time staped on the cached page on the 15th October, before this date my site was doing really well, however on the 16th October my site dropped like a brick, i had not made any dramtic changes if anything i had a few quality links. I looked at the competion and they have a date stamp of yesterday and are all ranked really well, i figure if i can get my cached pages with a date stamp pretty soon my pages will re appear in the rankings.

My question is what is the best way to do this, i do not want to start adding poor links or paying for links for a quick fix solution, so are there any other options open to me.
