I haver recently set up a new site and had been indexed by google. It was receiving a very small number of referrs per day(5-10) but I was happy enough as it was a new site. However, my site was offline for 2-3 days last month when I believe the google dance was taking place. Now I'm not getting any refrrs at all. I have searched for my site and it is still listed. Is this just a coincidence? Is there some way of telling the search bot that my site is still active and their are new pages with content there?

TIA

One of my competitors' sites went down about a year ago.

They come back - merely by following the links to your site from other sites, Googlebot will find you again.

If you say you are listed in the index, then your temporary departure from the internet probably wasn't even noticed by Google, and the dance that you refer to hasn't really existed for some time now. As Googleguy himself reported, Google is visiting and updating more or less without a break now - the rate for your site will depend on ho well-linked it is from other sites.

There's no need to try to tell the Googlebot, and it wil find your new pages, given time. A new site that I put up recently took three weeks to get its home page into the index, and another 3 weeks to get the rest of the site indexed. A more well-established site of mine has a large number of pages visited several times a week.

Content - that's what'll attract and retain visits. Rather than reply to this, put a new page up instead - it'll do more good <smile>
