What's the best way to handle this: I have a common keyword misspelling I want to target. If I have the domain w/ the misspelling but want to use another domain (business name) as my main domain, is it best to have it redirect at the server level or have a landing/info page for the misspelled domain and a link which the visitor would click for the main site? Or am I asking for trouble doing either?

You should redirect the misspelled domain name server-side with a 301 permanent redirect.

Building another landing page won't help your main site, because not all visitors would click through, and you're just pointing out their failings in the spelling department - not a good way to start a relationship!
