Hi

I was getting 7 SERP for a very competitive keyphrase of 3 words in google.co.uk. But from 3 weeks its getting down by 9 then 12.. 15 and now its on 18 th L. Now there are some new sites on page 1 without keywords in title tag. It’s very strange. Suggestions appreciated.

anchor text links bud

The site is coming on 3 rd for “allinanchor” in google.co.uk and 5 th in google.com for target keyphrase. I think the anchor text is optimized. Is there any other factor that can help.

if you rank high with the allin commands and nowhere on the normal serps you are suffering from google-lag/sandboxing. Check over in Google News [webmasterworld.com] you'll find several threads with hundreds of posts about it.

Site is on 18 th position for the key phrase in Google.co.uk and new sites have taken place in first page. Any suggestions.

Tigger or anyone,

Can someone explain exactly...

1. What is an anchor text link?

2. What is a backlink?

thanks.

The text that is used to open a page is the anchor text link. Back link is a link from other site referring to our site.

This is anchor text [whomever.com]

Backlinks are incoming links to your site from someone elses' site.

I did anchor text optimization even than site is not coming back from 2nd page to 1st page. It’s on 3 rd position when I do allinanchor. Previously for a long time it was on 7th position for that phrase. I am adding fresh content but in vain. Thanks for advise in advance.

I checked this for my own site, and yes this is the case; I was always wondering why so many irrelevant sites were in front. But:

My site is online since 2000 and the dmoz-entry came up in 2001.
the index page has PR4 ever since then.
New pages ftp-ed in August show PR since end September.
I thought this sandbox thing only happened to new sites?

What's wrong?

Thanks Liane, Please see your sticky mail.

Also, the SERP have improved from 18th to 15 position :).

But still not coming in first page. Please Advise.

Hi Oliver, Yes I think so that sandbox effect happened to new sites only.

Most likely you just got hit with an algo change. How are your other keyphrases doing? I have seen a major shift in the keyphrases driving traffic to my site in the last month. Dropping down to 18 really isn't that big of a change in ranking, it is just a big change in traffic.

And forget the allin commands, they do not show your ranking in the fields that you think they do. It is only a filter, not a ranking on the [anchor¦title¦whatever]. The ranking in those searches is based on other factors.

Can you clarify i have just done a test as follows
allinanchor:mysiteurl

I have 40 sites and when i search under the above term they all come number 1, which is the position they were in before the Florida update, however since then they have slowly all disappered, with a few exeptions they do not show in the first 100 pages of Google results. I did think they coud have dissaperd due to the fact that i had interlinked quite a lot, 6 weeks ago i removed all the interlink, does anybody think the allinanchor results are down to the fact that i removed all my interlinking if so can i expect my sites to return, or were the results always showing on allinanchor and i simply dead in the water.

Thanks

> Hi Oliver, Yes I think so that sandbox effect happened to new sites only.

Thx, so what's the reason then? google results under my major search term seem to be bull#*$! for months now. I mean I'm not the kind of person who would not recognize/appreciate a well done competitor's page as such; but if there simply is none? It's not a highly competitive term. #1 under all allin-commands but #18-28 in the serps.

my site are all 4 years old so if they show up excellent in allin anchor results but no were in goolge results

are they not sandboxed and missing for some other reson or are old sites sandboxed too.

And how many (worthwhile) links do you have from outside your neighbourhood of 40 sites?

I'm aware of the idea of keywords in anchor text but what are the actual practicalities of using it?

Say I want to rank well for blue widgets do I make sure every link to that page has blue widgets as anchor text? Or do I need to use a wide range of keywords and maybe use just blue from time to time?

MeeshaMosaic

Its helps to strong the theme and makes that page authority page for that key phrase. You can use blue widgets as anchor text to optimize a page for that key phrase. However, you can also use long phrase having blue widgets.

Did you go out and get a large number of new links this year?

anchor text links bud

.... and good page titles, good page text to HTML ratio and good navigation structure (with good use of internal anchor text).

Get the on-page factors right to start with (the "on page" elements in Brett's 12 month guide still apply) and the rest is down to inbound links and anchor text.

Then you have to wait for rankings to catch up with you, and at the moment you have to wait quite a while.

You can use that time to keep getting new inbounds and keep adding fresh content.

If you can maintain that and get more of the above than the competition for that phrase, then you will be #1 for that phrase. Eventually.

MeeshaMosaic,

Are you sure it is a "competitive" keyword phase? :)

Let us know what is the link count for the search

allinanchor:www.yournumber1competitor.com

And we will know if it is competitive. I say this because I don't think it is so easy to get into Top 10 for a competitve phase without even knowing what is anchor text.

MeeshaMosaic

Its count is 170616

Hmmm...I think there must be something screwy in the algo change. I've got 13,300 anchor links from other websites while my major competitors have at most 1,200. I rank in the top 2 for my money keyword phrase on every search engine I know of except for Google and it's affiliates where I've never been above 8th and recently dropped to 112th place. I guess that's not to bad considering that Google has 1.4 million pages cached for that phrase. I can find no rhyme or reason for the drop. It's been a big yo-yo ride ever since the Florida algo change. The strangest thing is that I get over 2000 Googlebot hits per day for over a month now. It's pulled every single page and image on my site. Nearly every page is ranked a 3 or better, even the crap ones that were there just for playing around with.

This is really a love/hate relationship I have with Google right now.

Is there any good way to check back links that other sites would have to me?

Yes. For my site, yes. Does this mean tt might have got sandboxxed although several years old just because of these new backlinks? Does that mean "put a bad backlink onto your competitors site, and he'll vanish in the nirvana?"
