Since the summer lots of people have been reporting problems with Google! Some say this is all connected with Google's IPO.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, BUT...
Since June/July when lots of people have been having 'problems' GoogleGuy also stopped posting here. Is there a connection? Why isn't 'Google' addressing some of our concerns?

Thanks.

It would appear that GoogleGuy was silenced about this time. It is unfortunate that they sanctioned his presence on this website for so long then "pulled" him without as much as a by your leave.

Some say this is all connected with Google's IPO.

The differences between how a private and a public company can interact with the public is like night and day. From this point forward, you will probably see about the same amount of forum participation from Google as you do from the other public engines.

GoogleGuy's last post shows Oct 15, 2004. So, he does still post.

Yes. But, i thought Google is a different company from their Founder's Letter [sec.gov]?

I think Googleguy just got bored of the constant attention. They say fame isn't all it's cracked up to be ...

What WebGuerrilla said! Its a whole different ball game now. Too bad ... it was nice while it lasted and I for one would like to thank GG for all the help he provided.

Maybe we'll see him pop up elsewhere in the future!

Not to worry, I'm still around. One thing I discovered while not posting as much is that I can be really productive when I put my head down and chug away on things. So now I'm kinda torn. Only 24 hours in a day, and there's too much neat stuff to do. WebmasterWorld is in good hands, so I've been posting less lately, but I'll keep trying to stop by from time to time, esp. when there's interesting stuff to mention. For example, if you didn't notice, Rob Pike is answering questions over at Slashdot:
[interviews.slashdot.org...]

Rob only joined Google a year or so ago, but I'm really glad we have him--I read his book a long time back. For the folks that like to read papers from Google, here's a systems one that Rob mentions:
[labs.google.com...]
I think it's pretty cool that Google keeps writing stuff like the GFS paper and the MapReduce paper; not too many other search engines are talking about their systems.

bnhall, if it makes you feel better, I'm still driving the beat-up car I got back in 1997. And the A/C just went out on it too. Good thing it's turning colder in the Bay Area now.. :)

Wow! I honestly thought you were gone for good GG. Yes, WebmasterWorld has always been in good hands and I realize you have different priorities these days, but man oh man ... some people here are in desperate need of your reassurance. Not me ... I'm fine for a change! I took your advice about writng as normally as possible and all is well with my site now!:)

But please clear up this toolbar/PR thing will you?! Just for old time's sake! ;) One last hurrah ... to save the newbies from committing web site HariKiri! Hmmmm, please?

Thanks for your post GoogleGuy.
I notice you didn't enter a "Pear-Shaped Google" debate... ;¬)

Leave the poor guy alone. He's done more than his share already.

Thx GG for the link to Rob Pike's interview on slashdot - this is a real gem worth reading to anybody who does a wee bit (or a lot) of programming.
