Am I the only one that has seen significant changes in backlinks and SERPs within the past two weeks?

Keep waiting for some discussion of it....

I have not seem much change in backlink counts but SERP's have definitely been up and down. I would say about 3 or 4 weeks ago a few sites started to drop a small bit, but are back to what they were for the most part. No consistency though.

We are seeing the serps change radically since Sat.

For one particular term we are going from page 2 to page 13, and back and forth. Still happening this morning. Be nice to see something change in the stale G serps.

I've seen a slight downward (sigh) movement in my backlinks in the last couple of days.

I've seen backlinks increase across 5 different sites in the past week or so.

SO, it isn't just me :)

I have seen a reduction in listed backlinks, but that doesn't mean a whole lot these days.

More significantly, I have seen pretty big changes in SERPs across a LOT of niche terms. I am seeing links pages showing in the top ten. I am seeing heavily interlinked sites created by one firm rising in the SERPs again after being absent for almost a year.

Things are changing, at least in my sectors...

SERPS yes +/- 2-3 pages max (dupe pages huge changes). Still showing 10% of total back links (since May!)

I have had a site online since mid-July with about 20 pages of well structured, keyword / keyphrase rich content. It is targetted at a very competitive market and has been in the sandbox, seemingly going nowhere.

For the past 2 weeks I have been getting good links to my site, as many one way as possible. I have got a few one way links from regional and international directories, as well as a few reciprocal links from high PR pages. Only some of these links are in Google.

The result.

The site has moved up from nowhere to top 70. The change happened on Friday, out of nowhere. It still has no PR, but manages to rank relatively well for a new site in a big market.

Sticky me if you want the URL.

Received a Google Alert (first in about 2 weeks) recognizing a "new" backlink. HOWEVER -- the "link:domain" returns same number as showing past month

A "Google Alert"? What's that?

Go to
[google.com...]

Create an Alert by entering in the search terms box
link:www.domain.tld

Select NEWS & WEB

Any time Google recognizes a "new" link you receive a message with the URL.

Thanks for the nice tip on Google Alert!
Very helpful feature to follow your websites backlinks changes, specially when you cant keep an eye on them all. However, I havent notice any backlinks changes in the last two weaks although I have had many on high PR sites in this period. No change on Google toolbar also.

"why no comments?"

Because I never bother to check backlinks, and I suspect that a lot more people are doing the same now.

Why check something that has never returned accurate results?

We've talked about it in the Supporters forum. Surely there's been a conversation about it on the outside. Check with the Googlebot Running Hard [webmasterworld.com] thread from September 25. It was on the front page, no less.

Then PatrickDeese posted a thread over the weekend about serp changes in the back room, supporters.

Let me explain the other contributing factor regarding whether or not we have a backlink/update discussion.

This forum is pre-moderated. That means all the posts are reviewed before they go live. Everyday there is a trickle of "my serps/backlinks have changed. Is this an update?" posts.

Those don't usually make it out. When there is some significant shift that is impacting sites across a wide range of topics, the amount of update related posts we get increases dramatically. Based on the numbers, and which members are sending them in, it becomes pretty easy to tell when something has really happened.

Back to the subject at large ...

I am seeing further upward movement on this site for 2 very competitive 2-word phrases, rising 9 spots in the results since Saturday / Sunday. One interesting thing about this site is that every page from the site in the G index has been dated "4 Oct 2004". I assume this is the result of some serious googlebot activity recently.

I have also noticed that much more established authority sites in the top 10 now have indented pages listed also for the same 2-word phrase.

Whether it is an unseen PR boost from some very good one-way links I have got from directories remains to be seen. However, considering that it is only a couple of months old and has been resigned to the sandbox since launching, I find it odd to be listing comparatively well all things considered.
