No PR after 6 months

My website has been running for 6 months, has over 8000 indexed pages and 100 back links and yet the PR is still 0 after all this time.

Most of the back links are from my own site (return to home links) but I do have a PR 5 site linking to me. But surely, even without external links, the 8000 internal pages alone would boost the site (given that each page starts off with a PR of 0.15 by default).

What am I doing wrong?

Are you getting traffic. Thats all that matters. You may have PR G is just not updating it any longer. It's not you. If you are getting traffic thats all that matters.

If you've only got 1 external incoming link after 6 months, it's time to focus on a link building campaign. See the link development section.

You do have at least a dozen other PR5+ pages linking to you, right? If not, you are advised NOT to put all your eggs in one basket. Give Googlebot lots of paths from other sites to yours. If that site is down, surely all the other sites won't be.

>>>What am I doing wrong?

What's in the toolbar is not necessarily correct. So don't let that worry you.

What you DO need to do is link development. One PR 5 isn't going to shake the world.

Backlinks - Backlinks - Backlinks

A directory I run lost its ratings with Google about 6 months ago. I have much time gaining new links from other tpoic related site. The site is now flying with MSN and Yahoo with an increase from the Google-Local search lately.

Still eagerly waiting to see if Google will actually have another update.

star_traveller

1. Has your site been spidered recently?

2. Do you get traffic from MSN and Yahoo?

Question about Google Local Search

Does Google Local use a different index?

Try to add a couple really good and relevant *outbound* links.

It may add to your PR *a little*. At least it will be positive. Of course inbound links are the king but outbound ones may work more quickly.

OUTBOUND links DO NOT add to PR. They may help your ranking, but they do not add PR.

These messages are popping up often due to the lack of PR updates. Maybe it's time to start a support group.

Of course your PR is STILL 0. If it was zero 3 months ago it will still be zero.
Have you not noticed the other thousand posts about PR not being updated?

"OUTBOUND links DO NOT add to PR. They may help your ranking, but they do not add PR."

Is this something you think or a fact? Is there any other who have the same experience?

"What am I doing wrong?"
instead of 8.000 links from your page you should have 8.000 links from other pages(not from your page)link to you.

How do I see if I'm in the "sandbox"?

The site is indexed every day at the moment by googlebot as I'm adding pages frequently. There are now around 8,500 pages and 110 back links. I believe that if I add outbound links then it will boost my PR if those sites link back to me (my vote boosts their PR which then means they have a larger PR for a stronger vote back to me).

In the meantime, I'll work on adding backlinks from other sites. Thanks.

re:"you are in the sandbox" or "penalized".....only if you just add over a 100 new pages in a 3 years old established PR6 domain...imagine you just open the door 6 months ago.LOL.....see you in 2 years probably in top 50 third page?.-
by the way since 2 days ago i can see a PR 8 spamer from the US hit the top in travel, though they where in communication industry they now to go in to travel industry(:-) it makes money is'nt'it?... (a future enemy of yahoo travel cr...p :).
the next step it will be all unemployed mom and dad pages an unfortunately goodbye.

OUTBOUND links DO NOT add to PR. They may help your ranking, but they do not add PR.

So it seems no harm to add a few good relevant outbound links.

Has you checked *yourself* that they do not add to PR?

For me the brought PR2. Not much but positive.

Outbound links have no bearing on PR. If a page has no inbound links to it it cannot have PR. If your page is at PR2 it has links pointing to it, either external links or internal links. There is no other possibility.

[qoute]They are correct Vadim[/qoute]

When facts do not corresponds to what people say I believe the facts. Probably you also.

How do you know that *small* part of PR cannot originate from outbound link? I believe you never tried yourself and just repeat otheres *opinion*.

The fact remains that I searched in Yahoo using link: and found nothing for this page. All innser page had PR0 when this page got PR2.

By the way. As you know people noticed major PR update now.

This page with no inbound links has PR5 now while pages reffereing to it from site has PR5.

Could you give me advice how can I found hidden links to this page? I have tried yahoo.

Sorry, correction. All inner pages referring to the page with no inbound links and PR5 have no more than PR4
