Very Strange Rank Fluctuation - Google

erratic google rank fluctuation

I have a page targeted for a moderately competitive three keyword phrase. Since being index by Google, it has been in the top 4 results for the target phrase roughly 95% of the time until this month.

I check my traffic stats pretty regularly, and during the month of September this page fluctuates back and forth quite regularly, possibly even daily. What's interesting is that it usually goes from #1 to buried - below the first 1000 results for that target keyword phrase. Judging from the traffic stats comparisons, it's buried for longer periods of time than when it's in the #1 position. Sometimes it's #2, 3, or 4, but lately it's been consistently going back and forth almost daily between #1 and buried.

I find this rank fluctuation more interesting than anything else. Anyone have an idea what might be causing this? I also wouldn't mind getting the page to stick to the top ten again. I've made less money with that page this month.

Thanks...

You're hitting a different data center. Ranks can differ from computer to computer within the same office. Not unusual. Been going on for awhile.

Thanks Martini...that answers two questions. I remember I recently saw a one position variation in rank for the same page between IE and Opera browser. Did one search right after the other.
