Hi,

We have spent time getting our home page and site spidered regulary, we are now moving our site to the next stage but this brings up one problem.

We rank well on our home page, but we wish to replace the home page with a front end page stating that there is mature content on the site and that some people may find some products offensive. Now we dont want to lose our positioning due to the SEO work done on the sites homepage, but we will be replacing a rich page with a dumb one..

What would be the best approach, drop the front page idea and just move the content to the new site or utilise doorway pages..

We dont want to lose our positioning but really want to give our visitors a better site and navigation.

Your comments please...

Interesting question!
The ranking that your home page gets is a combination of what's on the page and who links to it.
In minority areas - rare keywords - it's quite possible to get to number one with keywords that are only in the links to the page, and aren't on the home page at all. One of my sites does just that - first in over a million.
Sure, the title and page content matter too, but if both are missing, then links to the page can be enough...

Go for the page that satisfies your users...
A good Google listing gives you visits.
A good site turns visits into sales.
Sales are all that actually matters...

My phrase "satisfies your users" in conjunction with your phrase "mature content" is perhaps sub-optimal....
