Did Google buy GoogleAlerts.com?

Or did they reinvent their own?

Before Google started offering Google Alerts, there was a site called GoogleAlerts.com, that used the Google API to monitor Google's SERPs for keywords and e-mail you when something was found.

Did Google buy them or is Google's new "Google Alerts" their own thing that they rolled from scratch?

Just curious, if anybody knows.

Then Google must have rolled their own at (Google's web site)/alerts. I was hoping that the guys had scored a "win" by creating something interesting and then being bought out by Google. (I have no relationship with the people at Google Alerts, just wishing some fellow entrepreneurs some good luck.)

Isn't the google API in Beta, and only allows up to 10 queries a day? Or am I mistaken!

I believe it allows 1000 queries a day and I also believe that Google gives more queries to certain people who ask for them.

I'd be concerned about brand infringement if I was with STEAM. Not sure how they would legally justify to use the well protected and established G brand for their product and domain...

It is 1000 queries per day and Google definitely allows some people more. I remember reading somewhere that the GoogleAlerts-dot-com guys had be given an "unlimited" API key.

so maybe you remember "reading somewhere that they have an unlimited API-key" because you read it in the very contract you signed yourself?

i remember times when it was more difficult to disguise promotion in threads around here..

Promotion of what? Google Alerts? Why would I promote them when I already stated publicly that I have no affiliation with them? I don't blame anyone for being overly skeptical or cynical these days, but you are incorrect if you think I have an ulterior motive here.
