I'd like to know the method to improve the link popularity. At this point I know that, the best configuration is to have links from sites which have :
-a high PR (more than 5)
-a high link popularity themselves
-the same kind of content of my site
Here are my questions :
-are there plenty of others parameters? Which are there?
-for google, is there a difference between a deep link and a link to a homepage

One very important parameter:
- Your targeted keywords in the anchor text
-for google, is there a difference between a deep link and a link to a homepage
Amongst other benefits, a deep link will often help deeper content your site get crawled faster and more frequently. Also, an inbound link to an inner URL will pass all the PR (that it can) directly to the inner URL.

e.g. A link from a PR6 page with 67 links on it will give you about the same amount of PR strength (based on median value) as a link from a PR5 page with 12 links on it.
I've seen one example where a single link with ideal anchor text from DMOZ, for a reasonably competitive term, and no further visible inbound links, outperforms sites with much higher PR and similar content.
Could you tell us the PR of the DMOZ page?
