If a site was selling link space on a PR 8 site and you wanted to buy a link to a PR 6 site. Would the value of the PR 6 site go up to PR 7 or is there more to it?

definite maybe. However, regardless of the new PR rank for the old PR6 page, you would get the benefit of better ranking and referrals from the PR8

Links on a PR8 page (not site, but page) are worth a lot. If you can buy a link on a PR8 page dirt cheap, DO SO NOW. If it ain't dirt cheap, then you need to evaluate the worth of that link.

We have 18 PR8 links and 100s of PR7 links pointing to one of our sites and I believe this has only increased our site from a very high (all pages) PR6 to a PR7.

16 of the PR8 links are from the same site, however they do not sell "blocks" of links / advertising so its of very high quality.

I have no idea whether the PR7 is high or not, as I am using the Google directory as a point of reference.

I wouldn't expect a jump from PR6 to PR7 upon purchase of a single PR8 link... especially if they place a lot of text link advertising on the page.

Not forgetting that it's been so long since the last update, the page may no longer even be a PR8 anymore.

But even if it didn't push it up to a PR7, it would still be a higher PR6 and push search engine results further up, wouldn't it?

Also, is there a trickle-down effect on linking from a higher PR page to a lower one throughout the rest of the site?

One link from a PR8 page will usually make a PR7 page (and of course beenit all the pages you have linking from your new PR7).

It is possible one link from a PR8 could make your page a PR8, and it is possible one link from a PR* micht only make your page as little as PR5 or 4, if it is a low PR8 with hundreds of links on the page.

There is no generic rule. The PR a page with PRX passes depends on the amount of links on the page and how high or low a PRX it is.

<It's possible the page might not pass PR at all, and even likely if you are "buying PR", but that is a different issue.>
