The problem we have is our only product is the 'Brick Widget' . This is not the specific name given to the product, but a general name given to the type of product. We are now probably 1 of 2 manufacturers of Brick Widgets in the world. I'm happy with our ranking for almost every targeted keyword/phrase, except for 'Brick Widget'. We rank on the 6th page for this.
I have a strange feeling that because our 50 page site is all about our 'brick widget' and that the phrase appears in many page titles and in many paragraphs this is hampering my efforts. It appears a lot throughout the site. Is this likely to be a cause of my problems?
The other issue is that our index page only brings in 60 links. All the index pages of sites on the 1st SERP are in the 500+ region [note these are not the pages in the targeted SERP]. However I want to get my 60 link index page to the top.
Most of the actual pages on the 1st SERP don't actually have any direct links. They only have a lot of links to their homepage. Is there an issue here?
Hopefully you folks can lend me some views. I've been trying for months to figure this out. Oh yeah, we also have a link from the page at #1! But without 'brick widget' in the anchor text.
You may be able to boost this significantly by some strategic linking between your pages using the target keyword-phrase as the link text.
Two of the most important Google SEO elements are incoming link text and in-page link text.
