Does a link "expire"?

Old links no longer showing as backlink

I ran across an oddity. Links from abandoned pages on a site still connect, but they don't show as a backlink. (The originating site is a PR7 and NOT under a penalty that I can see) Any opinions?

ignore the backlink test, that's talked about all the time here, it's completely random, some say it doesn't list < pagerank 5, some say it doesn't list > page rank 6, in other words, nobody has any idea of what's wrong with the google link checker, use allinurl:yourdomain.com
and you'll find almost all, if not all, your backlinks present.

thanks isitreal!

I'll try that. I've also found that Yahoo! give a much larger (more complete?) list. Do you give Y any weight/value?

Personally, no, I don't give yahoo much weight because I just don't get any substantial yahoo traffic, but many people here do, so it's up to you. Most of my stuff rates fine in Yahoo, but very few people come to my sites though yahoo.

One of the things you have to keep in mind, whether or not the "originating site is a PR7," we're talking about PageRank here, not SiteRank.

I would assume that since you call these "abandoned pages" that their PageRank might have dropped below the threshold for Google to display as a backlink.
