Many have said that using your targeted keywords in the filename can be very beneficial, but how long is too long for the file name, and when does it become overkill?

Let's say you were targeting a keyword like this:
"cheap_widgets_boston_massachusetts.html"
(just an example)

What would you say is a good character limit, and has anyone ever seen any type of exclusions due to a long filename?

Thanks!

I have heard that there is a maximum URL length but in most cases you won't reach that. For XML-feeds I have heard it is 256 characters and for regular Google listings, I have heard that they do not do more than 1024 characters.

You will need to verify that though.
