Why is Google showing earlier retrievals or giving a blank?

A three month website had its first level pages re spidered on 1st August, together with three (out of 160 other pages) in the second tier.

All these pages were recorded in the cache together with the date; and the date was in the serps entry.

Now on August 2nd Googlebot has returned, recorded its visit in the cache but produces a BLANK entry for the index page. Why?

The serps now have a new date entry for the index page with the relevant text entry but the cache gives the above. The other second tier pages have lost their date entry and the cache shows the picture crawled on the 26th of June.

The homepage has retained the new info (part of a two frame frameset) but is dated 2nd August in the cache, all the other first tier pages have lost their update info and have reverted to the cache of 22nd July.

What's going on. Can anbody explain the Googlebot methodology please?

You must enjoy Google's way of playing with the results and updating the serps. What you're encountering is nothing but reflectio of resuts as captured at the diffrent datacenteres. Watch it closly and this would give you a lot of clues about how Google go about indexing the pages and seqently updating them in the SERPS.
