Before this May the serps for our main keywords listed most of the same major companies that we have been competing with for the last few years. At the end of May we noticed that many of our competitors were no longer listed and have been replaced with adsense pages and other affiliates for single products or products that are only slightly related to the search phrases.
My website stayed at the top 1-3 positions and I thought this would actually be good for us because most of the reputable competition was gone but I started seeing that it didn't work out like this.
What I started seeing was a decrease in google traffic and an increase in traffic from other search engines, mainly Y! and MSN.
The stats up until may showed that about 73% of our traffic came from G, about 11% from Y and just under 8% from MSN. I have not seen our positioning change much on any search engines but now G is down to 36% with MSN and Y! just slightly behind. Overall traffic and sales have stayed about the same.
This is leading me to think that the people who are looking for the information and services relative to our industry are going elsewhere now that the G results are so poor. Is anyone else noticing a big change in where your traffic is coming from and/or noticing poor results in your segments?
As a side note, a significant ammount of the G traffic we are getting are coming from terms that are only slightly related or are sending users to the wrong section of our website.
