How long before links affect pagerank?

Hi,
I'm currently PR 4 on one of my sites but since about 2 months there are 2 PR 6 pages (one with a lot of links, one with only 5-6) and since yesterday 1 PR 7 with just one other outwards link linking to me.
It's frustrates me that I'm still on PR4 (since I was PR6 early this year, and it DID affect my sales).
How long before Google picks up on this? I'm starting to think I received a "small" punishment a couple of months ago.

Assuming the links are direct and passing PR, I would say inbound PR6/7 links are normally picked up within a week maximum and reflected in the SERPS pretty soon thereafter. However, it can take up to a month or so to show on the toolbar.

My experience has been almost 3 months before any new PageRank shows on the toolbar.

Well the 6 PR links are there for 6 weeks (with one of them only with 4 outhoing links) and nothing changed yet to my SERPS, let alone my PR. The link from the 7 PR site with just one other otgoing link has only been there for 3 days, so I'm going to wait another week or 2 to see if anything changes.
Still find it very strange that I have yet to see a result of the 2 PR6 pages linking to me.

As you probably know - not all links are counted by Google. In past times, one could gauge the quality of a link just by simply checking the PR - today there are too many other unknown factors at play that make a quality link. I have had PR4 links that have made a dramatic difference to my SERPS within 2 weeks and PR7 links that never made any difference at all after 3 months. It's like a lucky dip! There is a lot more to a link than PR.

Page rank and other benefits are definetly taking longer to pass from high pr external links in some cases if not all.
i am sure its done to make buyers of links panic.:)
Start asking for the first month free.

The link from the 7 PR site with just one other otgoing link has only been there for 3 days...

Is the link on a page that is PR7 or is the home page of the site PR7?

What matters is the PR of the page with the link on it.

What matters is the PR of the page with the link on it.

I think the PR of both pages has an effect. If you have a new incoming link to a new site, it will have a faster/greater affect than on a new site with no existing pr.

It IS the homepage of a PR 7, but does that really make a difference?

Yes - in the positive. A high PR link to a low PR page will not see the full affect if any at all.

How about a clean PR8 front page link to a PR5. As far as affecting the SERPS.

Do you mean that if I have a page with PR2 and I get a link from a PR7 page it won't have much effect?

"6 weeks"

The last PR update occured the end of June, and the cutoff date for pages getting a PR benefit was about June 5, so something that happened six weeks will definitely not be showing benefits yet on the toolbar (though its actual benefit should be felt by now).

And the issue here is pagerank, which has no voodoo involved. A link from a PR7 page will have the exact same effect, in terms of PR, to a three year old PR5 page as it will to a brand new PR0 page. There is no difference at all. (Again, strictly from a pagerank perspective.)

Over the last three months, one of my PR4 sites have received 3-4 PR 4 links, 3-4 PR 5 links, 5-10 PR 2&3 links and 10 PR 2 and 3 links. No change in visible PR, no change in SERPs. Some of those links are with appropriate anchor text too. Nothing. Nada.

Most likely you will have much better than a PR2, but not always the power of a PR6 in my experience. I have seen a range of effects.
