Why no pagerank in the Google Directory?

My site has a PR of 5 but doesn't even have a ranking in Googles Directory

I simply don't understand it. My site has a pagerank of 5 according to the Google toolbar and several PR rating sites, but it gets no ranking in the Google directory! Note even 0!

There are no problems with my domain name and even Google has confirmed this via e-mail.

Why, after 6 months does my site still have no rank at all in the directory?

It's frustrating because if it was ranked it would be near the top of the list.... *grumble* :(

Hey pr0purgatory,
We are in the same boat. Google has not updated it directory in quite some time, at the last directory import of the ODP data, my site was added to G's Directory, but not assigned PR in the directory, and is listed at the bottom of the page in that catagory.

At one point, someone suggested that G update its directory on a more regular basis, as to avoid large shakeups for G SERPs, but that has not happened.

So, we wait.

I have the same problem with one of my sites.

As Thumpcyc says there is nothing to do about it but wait. The fundamental truth about the Google Directory is that we have no claim to be there or to have a rank.

I had the same problem a while back and emailed Google about it, and they basically gave the same advice that others are giving here - wait til the next directory update. :)

Thanks for your replies, at least I'm not alone in this.

I DID in fact wait for a directory update. Some new sites appeared, and STILL my site just sat there unranked.

That's what I don't get. It's not like an update hasn't happened, unless the appearance of new sites isn't the same as an update?

pr0purgatory, I would not worry about this at all - you are the only person that likely takes any notice of this anyway.

You have actually Submitted your site to the ODP havn't you? You wont get listed in the Google Directory until your listed there, you should remember too that it can take anywhere up to around 2 years to get your listing.

It took me only 6 weeks to get listed in the ODP. I wouldn't be listed in the Google directory if I wasn't in the ODP.

Hey Pr0purgatory,

The G Directory is not updated in a single update.

From what I may, or may not have learned lurking around here. Anyone Feel free to correct this if I missed anything, or listed these out of order. I think it goes something like this.

Step 1. Google Imports A RDP Dump from the ODP.
New sites added to the ODP will be added to the G directory, and sites that were removed from the ODP, are removed from the G Directory. New Sites will be displayed in the G directory listed at the bottom of the default sort by Page Rank, with no page rank bar alongside the URL.

Step 2. Google Directory Search Is Updated.
Sites are added & removed from the G Directory Search Function. (Seperate Search From Normal G SERPs, Directory Only Results), and the listing of the Catagory Of The New Sites Will Also Show Up From the Directory in both the Normal G Serps & the G Directory Search.

Step 3. Page rank is looked at & a PR bar is given, or updated in the G Directory, and the new sites that were listed without a PR bar will be given their placement in the default PR sort for the cat.

This is what I may, or may not have picked up around here.

They updated some categories last time, but didn't update some other pages to show PR bars. Kind of weird, but having a green bar next to your listing is trivial compared to actually being on the page and getting the benefits from that.
