Theme Pyramids backlinking

In reference to the Theme Pyramids [searchengineworld.com] article I have a few questions?

1. Should all level pages have a link back to the "beatified site map" level 1 page? I understand that a link to a level 5 page from level 1 can boost the level 5 and get it noticed but should all the pages backlink to level 1?

2. If my level 2 pages are my true money pages with the level 3 - 5 as support pages for it should I only link the level 3 - 5 pages back to the corresponding level 2 page in its tree?

egomaniac, thanks for the link, I have read it 4 times already and need a cup of coffee before reading it again :) .

I guess you came down this same path about 3 years ago. How did it work out for you? Are there any learned mistakes you can offer me before I start this. I am going to remove all the links to my main index page and try to develop each division separately. If you could I would love to pm you the address and have you take a look at it.
