Does size matter in Google?

Is there any preference in Google for the size of the pages? I was reading Brett Tabke's post a "Successful site in 12 months with Google alone", and he stresses the importance of small pages 5-10k.
I manage a travel website and given to the nature of the business I cannot deliver a page that small as I must have images to persuade my clients to chose and purchase. How important is the size then?

In the SERPs I'm looking at, the two sites battling at the top has 58k and 50k, respectively. The third has 7K.

I don't think size is as important as relevance to the term. The 5-10K rule I think is more as a benefit for the visitors for easy downloading of the pages. Otherwise, we won't be seeing sites with big sizes being at the top for several years now.

Based on all of the Enzyte ads I see in Google, I would have to say that size matters.

In another sector that I am looking at, not one of the top 10 sites fall within 5-10K. The #1 site for the past years now (a government site) has 49K. Most are above 20K, with only 1 -- the #10 site -- being a 14K site.

I would say create your site first and foremost for your audience, making sure that you have the kind of content that would attract and keep them coming back for more. Then strive to be an authority in your area, and the search engines will most definitely find you -- even if you have 50K.

It also helps that if you have create 10 different pages of 10k size, that is 10 times as many pages that can possibly rank for any given SERP then if you have one 100k page. And as mentioned, there are still a lot of folks on dial up. Consider how long a 100k page can take to load if the surfer on dial up is at the same moment downloading a Britney Spears MP3 on a P2P client?

The page size that matters to Google, and which is shown on the serps, refers to the source code. That does not include the size of the images.

" Based on all of the Enzyte ads I see in Google, I would have to say that size matters. "

The pages that rank well for my kewords are bigger than 10K. The top one is 200k bu has approx. 84 backlinks. I suppose this factor is more important than the size of the pages.

Thank you Ken_b for enlightening me on what Google considers on the size count.

I believe that Google recommends to keep pages below 100K ... but sometimes complex pages simply require more..

Optimal size in my experience has been 10K - 30K..
