What can we learn from G's director of search quality

lets breakdown his site and see what he does

If you visit Google's blog you'll find an article from Google's director of search quality. He says he is resonsible for "maintaining the ranking technology that decides what order your results show up in when you do a Google search". Then there is a link to his personal site. If anyone knows how to optimize their site for Google...he would be the one!

Let's breakdown his site and see what we can learn.

The only entry I found didn't have a link to his site at all - but interestingly, I did find a scraped copy of the blog, even without having to look too far.

Let's see... he has... good content, good backlinks (many from .edu), lots of links OUT to good sites.

He claims to be in the top 100,000, not the top 100. But you are right, he's not even that. He's at about 200,000 now.

This person's site is not a blog, but of the 12 bloggers I've found who are employed at Google, only one is in the top 100,000 at Alexa, and he's at 98,000. This includes the big-name bloggers who were hired when Google acquired blogger.com. They all have a PageRank of between 5 and 7, but it doesn't translate into traffic.

For all their arrogance, there's no "there" there at Google. It's only the mass media that hasn't figured this out yet. I really believe that Google has no idea what they're doing. I predict a massive cash-out and exodus as soon as top Google employees can unload their options. This exodus may affect morale at Google, but I don't think it will affect quality. The quality is already about as low as it can get.
