Does Google Penalise for its use?

Hi

I read an article saying that if Google finds out if a webmaster is using WPG in its search they will penalise the webmasters site.

Does anyone know if this is true? It sounds a little bit like scaremongering to me but you never know how tricky G can be!

I've been using the 'page critic' function dozens of times every day for years with no obvious advserse effects.

Don't use it to automatically check your ranking. it is against Google's TOS and it does not respect their robots.txt.

Totally agree with BigDave, WPG rank checker is Google unfriendly as it takes up unnecessary bandwidth.

For penalty, I don't think there has been any hard evidence that your site will get banned after using it to check your ranks. If you use it voraciously, then that can be another case. Perhaps once a month would be fine when traffic is not busy.

BTW, do you guy still use this great software of the past?

I use the page critic page but not the position checker.

Google has its own position checker that obviously you dont whacked for using.

Don't use unauthorized computer programs to submit pages, check rankings, etc. Such programs consume computing resources and violate our terms of service. Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Gold™ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google.

Yes there has been. Straight form the horse's mouth, in addition to which, respected members/moderators have reported being zapped for using it.

It's everyone's individual choice what and how much they're willing to risk.

Noooo.... never did and still don't. I consider it too risky to use this "great software" - the software that resides behind my face and between my ears is easily customizable and pretty much kept up to date, and is far less likely to get me whacked in the old whazoo than software that violates the search engines Terms of Usage.

That's just me, but then again I don't go bungee jumping or street racing on Harleys either. Some of us just like life to be comfortable with as little risk as possible.
