Indexing Vs Crawling

Is there a difference?

Hi everyone! I have some sort of confusion (or swtupidity) here :
I have a site for which I changed (or optimized) the home page. I am sure i did everything right (nothing malicious or spamming) and i uploaded the page last week. To my surprise, when i revisited google and searched for "MY COMPANY NAME" , I got my new page in the 'chached'. BUT I expecting my rankings to be changed (for better or worse) after my new page is crawled by Google. Now what is happening here?

1 Is it too early to say anything? But what confuses me is that if my page is in Google "cache", shouldn't it be raked?

2. Am i being penalized for som reason? Or is it too early to say about that too?

3. Is there any difference between Indexing and crawling? In this case, has google indexed my page ( I am sure my page is crawled)!

Any help in this will be highly appreciated. Thank you all.

Yes, I have noticed a slight delay between seeing the cache version of changes and seeing a consequent ranking change. Wait another week.

Too early to say, but probably not.

3. Is there any difference between Indexing and crawling? In this case, has google indexed my page ( I am sure my page is crawled)!

Crawling is just the spider visiting and taking info from your pages, indexing is when that info is processed and effects your ranking. Some of the on page stuff will effect your ranking quickly, while links in and pr takes a while to calculate.
