Poison keyphrase making comeback

A while ago I was ranking high for the main keyphrase my site relates to and then it disappeared after an update, I forget which one. It didn't disappear due to the site being new and all that. It disappeared when talk of poison keyphrases was being thrown around. Within the last few days it has gone from page 18 to the top of page 2 and who knows where it is going to stop. I am glad about this but I am confused at the same time which I don't like. I have not put much effort into getting this keyphrase to rank well since it disappeared from the results. I did a slight link promotion a while back with the keyphrase in the anchor text but there is no way it would yield results like this. After the keyphrase disappeared I did a little research and found out about so called poison keyphrases. This keyphrase happened to be one of them. My only theory on why this keyphrase is quickly making a come back with no effort is that maybe if there is such a thing a poison keyphrase that maybe this penalty wears off after a while. Maybe G releases the site for the keypharse back into the results if you don't take action through them to get it to rank better by means of advertising with them. Has anyone experienced anything like this before. I don't like being in the dark as to why a certain keyphrase is ranking well.
