Strange url entry in G

I couldnt find another post about this, its not something that is bothering me, but i was join some random allinul: checking and it turned up something strange.

One of the indexed pages was www.mydomain,net
a comma between the name and the suffix?! Anyone know why? The link comes up with no cached content.

probably Google followed a link with that typo.

happens all the time - try a site:.cmo search in google and you'll see tons of typos.

Yeah, I have a bunch in there for my site with %22 (meaning ") on the end of the URL. Persumibly someone linked to them wrong *shrug*

why would google index it if it was incorrect, i thought google was supposed to drop or leave urls that were 404?

it isn't indexed, but Google does recognize that the link continue to exist, that's why it only shows the URL as the title. Google is giving the linking website the benefit of the doubt.

What I find annoying is that because the page doesn't exist, Google doesn't store backlinks for it, so it's hard to find the site which is linking to you incorrectly so you can get them to fix the links.

allinurl:mydomain.com used to bring up "mydomain.com<br>" as a result.

While yes, it was annoying, it disappeared after about a month. :)

Google will store backlinks for it if they are over PR 3/4 (as the general rule goes).

This is similar to the robots excluded URLs that were appearing in the serps that were driving me crazy a while back... The URLs hadn't been visited by the bot, yet could attract PR and backlinks like any other resource...
