I need some help google is for some reason using the bottom line of my page as the description rather than any of the other useful text in my page for the description. Anyone have any good suggestions on how to help steer google into using the right description?

Couple of questions that might help unearth the reason:

Is that happening on just one page, or across a whole site or a good part of it?

If it's across the whole site, are you using a template with certain parts of the page all identical?

I've found that if I use the keyword phrase I'm optimizing for in the first few words of my meta description, Google picks this up.

The "description" in google is a selection of text from your site that highlights the keywords used in your search. So a search for "site:www.example.com widget" will have a different "description" than "site:www.example.com foo". That way a searcher can determine if the keywords are used in the context that they wanted to search for.

Yeah I figured out the errors of my ways. This is my first site designed specifically in hopes of getting SE traffic so I'm just being impatient and over-analyzing everything.

Thanks all
