Top of SERPS but no sales.

Can I sell my domain or will Google cancel the PR?

I have worked really hard to get the top of the SERPS just to find out that nobody wants to buy my product. I have tried lowering my prices below my competitors and even beating them in the turn around time but still no sales.

So basically I am a little bummed out and was wondering if I can sell my domain to a competitor to at least get some return on my efforts.

I read that Google wipes the PR and backlink slate clean when a domain is transferred. Is this true? If this is true is there anything I can do to help my competitors and get a little return out of it. Thanks...

So if you have a high(main) street shop, best location, and many people come inside to visit.(assuming there is a demand for the product and it is competitively priced)and there are no sales!
Well either the staff do not know how to sell or the customers do not like the shop inside or cannot figure out how to buy the product.Or perhaps it was raining outside and they popped in for shelter in the the first available shop.OR they read the advertisement about the shop and when they got there they could not find what it said in the advert.
Just some thoughts from the world outside which i believe apply to all of us.

>the staff do not know how to sell

This could very well be the case :)

But I think I am really just interested in whether the site is worth anything. Meaning if I transfer the domain to a buyer, will Google wipe out the PR and backlinks?

If a site is transferred to someone else legitimately it doesn't get wiped out. At least that's how it was a while back, several months ago, from my experience.

An acquaintance was letting go of a domain because she'd developed another interest and was developing a different site. I knew what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands, so she transferred it to me.

I'm not using it "commercially", I just put some stuff on for a few people gratis and optimized the site a little. Doing fine, never lost a drop of PR. No reason why it should, it never expired and it's being used right on topic.

I'm with Marcia on this. What you read probably relates to 'expired' domains not to 'transferred' domains.

As long as the transferred domain maintains its link structure I think it will not lose PR.

Hmmm, obviously your competitors are selling, how long has the site been up?
Sticky me i will take a look for you as we own several successful ecommerce sites.

Just ripping into something I said a while back about the worth of a site.

But I think I am really just interested in whether the site is worth anything. Meaning if I transfer the domain to a buyer, will Google wipe out the PR and backlinks?

As a potential buyer of my site told me "buying a site for it's PR or ranking is ludicrous, I don't want my investment controlled by an employee of Google in the bathroom taking care of business thinking, why don't we do it this way". I thought this was pretty funny.

Also the ranking could be high because of bought links that will disappear after the site is sold. I guess there are tons of reasons why the ranking and PR of a site aren't worth much when considering the worth of a site. I guess over all I learned that a site may be worth something but not because of it's current ranking. Ranking is not a commodity...

ranking and PR of a site aren't worth much when considering the worth of a site.

I've read quite a few posts here from webmasters that thought ranking & PR were very important and were very upset that they lost it..

If the site ranks high, and gets lots of visitors that don't buy. maybe the only value it has is the rankings (as far as selling).
Or you could just change the site :)

It's hard to say not knowing the industry and more about the site. I took some suggestions from this forum that actually really helped my conversion rate. Sticky me the url if you like and I could give you my 2 cents.

Become an Adsense publisher. It will show competitors' ads and might bring in more revenues.

The site seems to be OK. I guess I just need to get some products that people will actually buy...
