Is it advised?

I'm wondering ..

Would www.keyword.com/keyword/products.htm

be better than

www.keyword.com/products.htm?

Basically all that has been added is a folder.

Yes.

Google values keywords within URL... but don't abuse.

Excessive use of this might be counter-productive as you add keywords to your URLs but you also add levels to your site and this can make it more difficult and even impossible for bots to find and list your pages.

Hope this helps.

Thanks ...

With my example all that has happened it that all pages have been placed in a folder instead of being placed in the root directory.

The only file in the root directory would be the index page. I was just wondering if Google would take this as being abusive.

I don't think GG would take that as being abusive.

The issue is mainly being careful of not building too many levels (rootfolder/subfolder1/subfolder2/subfolder2/etc.) in your site as some SE's bots won't spider your site below a rather short number of levels (some say 3 some say more), and this could prevent your pages to be listed on those SEs.
