Google only honoring some links on page as backlinks

I have read a bit from a search and recently did some investigating to find out that the link we got from our first PR 4 (we are a new site PR 0) has links also on the page that ARE found by Google as backlinks, but also a link directly above us that also is not. It is a links page, but like I said we did a link:variousdomains.com on the page and checked to make sure this was happening.

Looking at the source, it would seem our page is listed towards the bottom of the page, but not the very bottom.

It is strange that some sites are listed as backlinks, and just ours, and I believe the one right above us, are not.

Anyone have any explanation for this? The page cache shows both our page and the other page also not recorded as a backlink.

The reason that this is important is it should get us in the ballgame and listed by Google if we understand correctly because it is a PR 4.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions. We did email the Webmaster and politely ask to be moved up a few spots if at all possible. Any other reasons that this could be?

Well, I believe it has been in Google for about 1 week now. I am just judging this by roughly the first time I have seen it appear in the cached version of the page. Does it take some time for google to record it as a backlink even if it has already seen it on the page?

I just noticed this as well with my site (listed in my profile). I'm in DMOZ (PR 6), yet don't show up in link:. Some other sites on the same page (above), do.

I'm seeing a PR4 site not in the Google Directory, which means there is a good chance it is too early to expect the dmoz backlink to show and it will show up next update.

steveb, I didn't understand your response. Could you clarify?

(My site has been in dmoz for over a year. Is it possible that Google ignores the link for other reasons?)

Google will not show every backlink. For a better account of them check alltheweb.

Even alltheweb doesn't show all the links (like the dmoz one).

I have a link to my site from a page with the same problem. The links to the first ten or so sites seem normal, but the links to the other twenty or so seem not to count in Google as backlinks, and, in fact, not to pass any PR (since the site under mine has been linked to for as long as mine has, probably six months by now, and has zero PR).

The referring site in my example, too, is a links.htm page. Very odd. I wonder if Google is getting hung up and not finishing spidering some pages because of oddnesses in the linking code somewhere...?
