I was just checking a site using 2 keywords and I was very happy with the result, I clicked the search button again by mistake and the site that was number 1 changed to number 2! so I clicked it again and back to number 1. I did this about 10 times and every time the same thing happend!
I cannot seem to figure this one out, usually with dances the results change every few hours, but not on every click. It's a wacky world!
Google has their servers in various geographical locations so that the results go out quicker. Each datacentre has like 10,000 servers, (who knows man, they have a sh*tload of them), and they don't all have the exact same index at the same time. It could be that one time you clicked, you hit one, then the next time, a different one.
And too bad, all datacenters has slightly different SERPs and that's why you notice your slight slip up or down 1 or 2 position. And that's normal.
Tips: IF, however you saw your site slip up or down a lot, that usually means. (ONE) An update happened but without much discussion here in webmasterworld. It is almost certain to have a PR and backlinks update within 2 weeks. Discussion then start in webmasterworld with something like
... Backlinks increase from **** to xxx, PR now x, but SERPs is the same, everyone noticing changes in SERPs ...
(the SERPs is already being reflected 2 weeks ago)
(TWO) They are testing new algo in specific datacenter. This set of new algo, if approved, will spread to all datacenters. But if unsatisfy, will be drop (temporary, and will be retest and improved later). That's why if you saw your site LOST in the SERPs, and later come back. Be careful, it is a strong signal you are in the border of what the algo want to catch!
