301 and DMOZ

Will DMOZ benefit be transfered?

One of my sites is listed in dmoz with the wrong url (without www). All other sites link to it with the www.
Unfortunately Google sees these as two separate sites with different PR.

Let's say I place a 301 redirect on domain.com to www.domain.com. This should transfer PR but will I lose the DMOZ benefit ("signs of quality" etc)?

If the URL works without the www, then it's not wrong, is it?

If you want to make that URL NOT work (a 301 redirect to the preferred URL is the best way), then the ODP will update its listing next time our automated linkrot checker runs.

It just ran, and we're cleaning up the mess now. I'd expect the next run in about 3-4 months (plus or minus 3-4 months, of course).

The problem with having DMOZ change the url is that it can take forever and I will not know for sure if the editor won't kill my listing. So I don't think I want to risk that. Never change a running system....

There is another alternative: I could use domain.com as standard in communication to others and put a 301 on www.domain.com to domain.com.

Does that make more sense? Are there any downsides to not going by the common standard with www?

This is the one problem I had with using 301's to redirect from some .htm's to .shtml's with exact same content lost all the Dmoz listings. G had no problem only Dmoz.

veedub - I'm guessing you'd be better off setting up your server so that just one version of your domain is returned. Here's one of several threads on the subject. This one assumes an Apache server.

I actually don't know if a 301 redirect to the www version will work. It's an idea I haven't seen suggested in all these posts on getting the www to be the default.
