Are we all or have some of us cracked it?

I have this serious suspicion that the mysteries of the Google changes during the last few months have been cracked by some of the big hitters on this forum who seem to be conspicuous by their absence.

Perhaps they're off writing content instead of posting.
That's where I have been!

Or, with tongue in cheek, dare I say they now frequent a different forum for *their* conspiracy theories.

Seriously, whether one's sites are doing well or not, this forum adds value to one's understandings.
Maybe they're listening and lurking.
Maybe they've given enough time to answering question and are taking a well-earned break.

Least likely is that they've hit the jackpot and have retired to rest on their laurels.
Right - I'm off to upload some more pages. yes, really..

My personal opinion only... we have about as much of the "just post good content and everything will be o.k." advice that is going to fly. Sure there are sites like these doing well on G... for a competitive term the odds of recreating it are akin to winning the lottery. To do any good with G now takes "black hat" methods that nobody wants to admit that they are doing. When somebody brings up their site is hijacked etc. the silence here is deafening. It is not a "finesse" game anymore. There aren't subtle tips to be shared that will help push somebody over the hump. It is brute force uploadings of spam, cloaking competitors content and pseudo directories, pseudo hubs and pseudo authorities with bought and paid for P.R. that are doing well now. SEO used to be looked upon from the outside as an art... it is quickly becoming perceived as something sleazy. Given that... kudos for G for trying to save the www which is on track to wind up about as useful as spam email.

Now I will be the first to admit that I do not play in the same areas as the big boys.

That said, after some rocky times in Nov/Dec I have maintained solid positions across virtually every keyword combination in my niche. The secret? I am simply using good old fashioned techniques as outlined in Brett's recommendations.

Unfortuantely, I have also found myself needing to send out an increasing number of C&D letters for theft of content. None of these sites have been beating me in the SERPs though.

One other thought - I do have a fair number of links coming into my deeper pages, and I have precious few recip links. Most inbounds are to my content from other "authority" sites. (I like the .org, .gov and .edu if I can get them:))

Now, if Y could figure out their 301's, I think I would be a happy camper indeed.

You want a big secret. Buy a dmoain that is already doing well and has lots of backlinks. Not a deleted domain just one that somebody does not need anymore. Finding a company that is going out of business is always good.

Another big trick is make several good info sites or do something for free that is useful and get the easy backlinks then link them to your site.
