Google indexing of geocities websites

Will Google automatically pick up the site?

I'm helping a friend who has a new information site up at Geocities. the URL looks like geocities.com/BlahBlahBlah. Will Google automatically find and index the site because it's on the Geocities server, or will it still require links pointing to the page for it to be found? In the past, the submit a site feature has been very hit and miss for me.

1 link from a site in the google index will get the geocities site spidered at some stage
If there are no incoming links I would say there the site will not come to the attention of the googlebots.

Slightly OT but Geocities+Google related:

When a Geocities site exceeds its bandwidth allowance, any attempt to look at pages from that site results in a "this site has exceeded its bandwidth" page. I'm not sure what the server return code is there, but I was wondering what Googlebot does when it encounters this response.

I've seen that happening on several sites, they can't be giving much bandwidth. He'd be far better off getting a cheap domain and cheap hosting - let Google find that instead of a Geo site. If traffic goes up, it'll be cheaper to use private hosting than pay for premium service.

Plus, no annoying popups for when the site is submitted to directories, which I'm assuming an info site will be.
