Can someone please advise me what the current situation/relationship is between Google and Dmoz.

Other than Dmoz providing the results for the Google directory.

Is Google still using the Dmoz listings in the organic results. i.e. the Dmoz description in the Google algorithm.

Please advise

>it looks like they are not currently showing the description in the SERPs, but we have no way of knowing whether or not it's given any consideration

We do. Find a listing in the Open Directory which contains a misspelling, making a complete nonsense word. Search Google for this word. Directory pages containing the listing will appear. But not the site itself.

I know of no evidence that Google ever used the directory listing descriptions as a factor in its algorithm.

I'm surprised only BigDave has pointed out:

The only thing special about DMOZ is that there are lots of copies of it out there, and several of them continue to count towards PR.

I think this can be a big boost for sites, especially if you are high enough up in the directory - you'll also get the PR from many other directories that use DMOZ data.

It is true that the link from DMOZ is counted the same as any other site, however, you also get the links from 100's if not 1000's of other sites that use DMOZ data.

Rick_M, that is an excellent point, yet so obvious and simple.
