Ranking mystery

Site is nowhere, but high rank for allinanchor, allintext etc..

I am a bit perplexed.
We have 2 main sites, one in German and one English. The English one is doing very well, thanks in part to what I learn from Webmasterworld.

The German one does Ok for some searches, but the main KW's are just hardly showing at all. A search for "deutsch Widgets", which is what we sell...well you just can't find it. However, I just tried these searches :

allinanchor: deutsch widgets
allintext: deutsch widgets
allintitle: deutsch widgets

In each case, our german site is top 10. So why should it rank sooo badly for the search term? One reason may be lack of backlinks. Our English site is much longer established and I have a lot of links coming in. The german site has just a few thus far.

I guess we are not the only ones with this problem. Maybe just a glitch and next time there's an "update" it'll be better?
