This isn't on a regular search, this is when you use the domain to filter the results.
e.g. widgets site:widgets.com
each time the page loads it shows a different number of results. So far I've counted 10 different results numbers for one site:
1149
1456
748
752
698
446 ... and so on, which are all dramatic differences in the number of pages Google says it has indexed for my site.
I'm checking all my other sites just now but I wanted to get a head start on what other people thought this might be. Do you think Google is playing with webmasters again (like the ever changing backlinks) or do you think that as well as algorithm tweaks, Google is testing algorithms on different databases?
