Will server location affect SERP or PR?

Product and sites linking are from a specific region.

I have a product that's from a specific area in the U.S. It is unavailable anywhere else. Most of the sites linking to me are on servers within the area. Additionally the specific area is going to be mentioned within the pages quite often. My server is clear across the country, will this affect how I'm ranked compared to competing pages? The only reason I don't use a local server is that they are roughly double the cost with half the service.

If server location impacted rankings on the world wide web, I'd never use that search engine.

Most people can change web hosts without losing any rankings so it shouldn't be an issue. :)
