Currently, the sites providing links (using my supplied descriptions and anchor keywords) are ranking higher in the SERPs than this particular website.
The whole situation is rather frustrating because the reason is unknown. Could this possibly be related to AdSense?
That great new nifty Google filter is supposed to block spammy affiliate networks isn't it? ;-)
No. Why would G want to demote adsense sites. If anything, they would want exactly the opposite.
I'd wait until after the IPO for real policy changes on an issue like this.
Ides of March saw a big drop on several of my sites, both with or without AdSense. Google traffic fell about 50% across these sites. BUT, AdSense revenues went up sharply, despite the big drop in traffic.
Now go figure!
If you have new evidence, stcrim, present it, otherwise it looks like you're just stirring the pot.
In other words, running AdSense will not change your ranking in any way, but the AdSense servers know where you rank in the different searches, how often they are searched on, and how well specific keyword ads do on your page.
I actually think that Google could use the click throughs on ads on your page to get a better idea of what the page is about, and therefore improve their SERPs. But I believe that is a line that is better left uncrossed.
And a simple possibility could be that Ides of March, while de-ranking my high quality sites, de-ranked competing lower quality sites even more, leaving my surviving pages with significantly better AdSense exposure.
Kind of like hoeing out the weeds so the corn can grow.

At this point it does look like adsense are surviving in the cash register. That can't be said for other people in other affiliate programs. Though the jury is still out.
I hope the way I posted the question it was fair for all sides.

Same with AdWORDS - doesnt help nor hurt your rankings if you run it on a site. Heard before brownie points can be earned - not true..
I stop by to give the "buying AdWords neither helps nor hurts" advice, and find SyntheticUpper again. SyntheticUpper, it's great that you've been able to do close to 200 posts in your first month, but I think you harm your own credibility more when you make statements like this. I'm in danger of blipping over whatever you write when I see your posts. :)

I don't recall claiming that Adwords or Adsense have any impact on rankings. It's obviously nonsense.
Perhaps calling Google 'utterly corrupt' was a bit harsh. It would have been better put "Google has corrupted its own professed vision for the web, and its value". Now I've made that clear, I will happily withdraw the original statement.
But certainly Adsense commercialises the whole web, and the money all goes through Google's coffers. And DomainPark is an even more suspect concept - the rewarding, by Google, of zero content.
IMO Google has made some commercial decisions that fly in the face of its own mission statement. This puts GG in a difficult position, a position I don't envy (I have no problem with GG, seems a very fair man - I recall defending him some time back when someone attacked him personally.)
My problem is with what Google claims to be interested in, and what it now actually does.
If Google changed its mission statement to perhaps:
"providing good search results, whilst maximising our own revenue" I think we would all be more content, and GG in a less invidious position.
As for my almost 200 posts, you are welcome to deprecate all of them GG.
As for whingeing, my sites are doing o.k. thanks - but I still think the search results are poor, and Google should stop playing around with them.
Feel free to fire away... but don't put words in my mouth, don't jump to conclusions about your fellow posters, and *do* read the posts :)

p.s. This post may appear off-topic, but special circumstances I suggest. If this post is off topic, then so are all the ones above saying "Well said GG" etc. They too have nothing to do with Adwords and positioning :)
If you consider the earlier comments of BigDave along with the fact that AdSense conversions (the money) are somewhere between stable and up - even though SERPS may be somewhere between stable and down - there is some relationship.
One of my favorite news sites has AdWords. A new article may have been written and posted today about let's say Michael Jackson, and everyone of the AdWords would be selling something relating to him. That's in real time based on an article that may have only been live to 20 minutes.
No doubt Google can match the Adwords to the search and deliver pages that are AdSense affiliates.
I'm not saying this is bad - if I owned Google I would be doing it too - and crying all the way to the bank.
