I have two sites. Widgets and wodgets. Which is the better or these two scenarios..

SCENE A

Widget links to ANothersite and ANothersite links to Wodget
Wodget links to yetANohersite and yetANothersite links to Widget.

Each of my sites only gets 1 link but it is one way back to each.

SCENE B

Widget and Wodget link to ANothersite, ANothersite has a link back to both Widget and Wodget
Widget and Wodget link to yetANothersite, yetANothersite has a link back to both Widget and Wodget

Each site gets 2 links each but it's reciprocal

---------------
Is a one way link to each site more beneficial than each site having 2 reciprocal link?
---------------
QUESTION 2

Is it more beneficial to have an affiliates scheme (if you have a pay site) where the others ilnk to you as part of the affiliate scheme but they don't get a link back. Just money if they drive traffic? This way you get loads of one way links back to my site.

I ask as many of the really big sites don't seem to bother with reciprocal linking at all, i.e. no links pages. Do they come high in the rankings as many people link to them but they are too big to need a link back so further increasing their SERPS and PR?

Nobody else said it, so I will: the conventional wisdom is that the best scenario is the one that is best for your visitors.

Scene 1 and scene 2 would result in tha same PR to all the pages because in either case you have a symetrical linking pattern.

Now for question 2 -
The ultimate link is always a one way link into your site. The really big sites have many other sites that link to them because they are a quality site and maybe have something unique to offer.

If you have some sort of an affilaite based pay site then each of the affiliates link to you with a unique url, something like yoursite.com?id=132. You do not get the same PR benefit as if they were all linking to your main page. As a matter of fact check the backlinks for just about any affiliate program and you will notice that no affiliate links show up.
